We already knew that the next Mitsubishi Evo will be hybrid, long after the president of Mitsubishi Motors, Osamu Masuko has confirmed the rumors at the sidelines of the exhibition in, Australia.
The new Lancer will be presented in 2014, with the fast Evo version coming on the market a few years later, and producing close to 500 horsepower. The hybrid engine of the new Evo will borrow technology of the electric MiEV Evolution II Pikes Peak which produces a total of 544 horses.
The new-generation Mitsubishi Evo will be four-wheel drive featuring an upgraded S-AWC all-wheel drive system and will emit less CO2 than the Evo X , also it will be able to move for a few kilometers solely on electric motors. Design is expected to borrow elements from the original RA Concept which was presented by Mitsubishi in the report of Detroit in 2008.
At the same time, Mitsubishi prepares also a PHEV version of the Lancer, which will wear a 2.0-liter petrol engine which will work with two electric motors 60 kw (82 hp). It will have an average consumption of 1.8 litres/100 km, an autonomy of 65 km only with only electric motors and it will emit less than 50 g/km of CO2.
