Audi unveiled the second generation of the A5 Cabriolet, shortly before the car makes its debut at the Los Angeles auto show on November 17.

The new model has a length that reaches 4,673 mm, while its wheelbase reaches 2,765 mm. Despite the increase in dimensions, the model has an improved stiffness by 40%, compared to the previous one, while its weight is up to 40 kilos lower in comparison with the model that replaces. Its soft top roof takes 15 seconds to open and 18 seconds to close, even when it is moving at speeds up to 50 km/h.

Initially, the new Audi A5 Cabriolet will be available with three engines: a 2.0-liter TFSI with 252 hp, a 2.0-liter TDI with 190 hp and a 1.9-liter TDI with 218 hp. Later a 2.0-liter TFSI with 190 hp and a 3.0-liter TDI with 286 hp, will be added to the range of engines. According to Audi, the engines are more powerfull by 17% and consume 22% less fuel in comparison with the previous engines, of the convertible A5.

The engines will be available with either a 6-speed, manual gearbox, a 7-speed S tronic dual clutch, or with an 8-speed tiptronic, with the power to pass on the front wheels and the four-wheel drive system being offered as an optional. Finally, the S5 Cabriolet will be equipped with a 3.0-liter TFSI engine that produces 354 hp and it will be combined with the 8-speed tiptronic automatic transmission and the quattro four-wheel drive system, that will enable it to accelerate to 100 km/h from standstill in 5.1 seconds, with its top speed being electronically limited to 250 km/h.

The interior of the car is more spacious and the luggage space reaches 380 liters. Sales of the new A5 Cabriolet and S5 Cabriolet will start in March of 2017 with their prices in Germany starting from €49,350 and €67,800 respectively.
