One of the many ways to make internal combustion engines more efficient, is the variable compression ratio, with Porsche recently patenting such a system.
The idea of variable compression ratio (VC) is very old, but obviously there is great interest to continue the research. A similar proposal was patented last year by Audi, with Porsche to submit its own patent a few days ago, but that does not mean that we will see an engine with variable compression ratio in the coming years.
