Lamborghini at the 1967 Geneva Motor Show, presented a prototype four-door car, the Marzal Concept which eventually led to the production of the Espada. The Lamborghini Marzal Concept was designed by Marcello Gandini, of Bertone, it was based on a framework of the Lamborghini Miura and it weighed only 1,310 kg.

The Marzal had a roof and doors made of glass. It was equipped with a 2 liter engine 6-cylinder engine producing 177 hp at 6,800 rpm and 179 Nm of torque, combined with a 5-speed manual gearbox, while it had a top speed of 225 km/h.
