Hyundai has presented the engine of their future hybrid car, which will be the competitor of the Prius. The engine is a 1.6 liter four-cylinder gasoline GDI that will be combined with an electric motor powered by lithium ion batteries.

The GDI engine by itself delivers 105 hp with 147 Nm of torque and its thermal efficiency reaches 40%. The oil flow is simplified by the insertion of an oil control valve (OCV), which is integrated with the variable valve timing (CVVT) and since the block is heated quickly, there is less friction in the engine and thus lower fuel consumption.
The engine will make its debut early next year and it will be combined with a specially developed electric motor.
