The replacement for the 1-Series Coupe and Convertible, whose production has stopped , will be presented in Los Angeles. It will start construction in November and it will hit the market in March 2014 .
It is smaller in size than the Series 4 , but a little larger than the current generation of the Series 1 Coupe. BMW has stated that it will be sportier than the 1-Series Coupe and mechanically it will initially be available in versions as the 220i, 220d and M235i.
The 220d, will be equipped with a two-liter turbo diesel engine producing 181 hp and 380Nm of torque, having a
0-100km/h acceleration of 7.1 seconds (with the automatic gearbox) and a top speed of 235km/h.
The standard 2- Series 220i, will be equipped with two liter four-cylinder engine that produces 181 hp and 270Nm of torque having a
0-100km/h acceleration of 7 seconds and a top speed of 235km/h.
Regarding the faster M235i, it will be equipped with the same three liter turbocharged diesel engine as the M135i. However the 2-Series is marginally stronger yielding 321 hp and 450Nm of torque. The automatic 2- Series accelerates to 100km/h from standstill in just 4.8 seconds, while the manual is 0.2 seconds slower.
The engines will be mated to either a 6 – speed manual or an 8 – speed automatic transmission, while the xDrive all-wheel drive system will be available in the additional equipment.
Later more versions will be added like the 218d, 225d, 218i, 225i, and they will be followed by the M2 with the latter costing close to 52,900 euros in England. Besides the coupe versions, the 2-Series will be available in cabrio and Gran Coupe versions.
