The first time BMW transformed a car into a work of art, was in 1975. More specifically, the first car was a 3.0 CSL and the artist responsible for the design was Alexander Calder.

Important artists, have created a total of 17 BMW Art Cars, through the years, with the last one being the BMW M3 GT2 of Jeff Koons presented at Paris in 2010.
To celebrate this important anniversary, BMW has launched events/exhibitions in Hong Kong, the BMW Museum and the Concorso d’Eleganza at Lake Como. From there, the cars will travel to New York, Miami and Shanghai.
