Under the hood, the cars a re equipped with an electric motor which will produce 82 hp and 160 Nm of torque in the European version. The engine will be common to all three models which will have a top speed electronically limited to 130 km/h in order to maximize efficiency.
The Fortwo Coupe will be able to reach 100 km/h from a standstill in 11.5 seconds, the ForTwo Cabrio in 11,8 seconds and the ForFour in 12.5. In addition, they will be combined with a single-speed transmission, borrowed from Renault, which sends the power to the rear wheels.
Finally, in terms of autonomy, the cars will be equipped with a lithium battery of 17.6 Kwh that can give the ForTwo Coupe an autonomy of 160 km and 155 km for the other two. A full charge takes 2.5 hours in the US and the UK. In Germany, where there is a different charger due to single phase AC, the new Smart EVs can charge 40% faster through a household outlet.
