The Stola S81 was built in 2000 by Marcello Gandini, the designer of many cars, like the Lamborghini Miura, the Countach, the Diablo and many more. The car was constructed to commemorate the 81st birthday of Stola, a coachbuilder from Turin.

The two-seater coupe was first presented at the Turin auto show in 2000, exactly 30 years after the first presentation of the Zero concept, the prototype which later evolved into the legendary Lancia Stratos.

The orange color of the car was a reference to the color of the prototype of the Stratos. The car was equipped with a V8 engine of the Maserati, which produced 370 hp, but it never passed to production.
