The Etoile Filante had a jet engine, producing 270 hp, with its body being made of polyester, to keep the weight as low as possible. In 1956, after two years of testing, the Etoile Filante achieved a new world record at the Bonneville salt flats in Utah, USA, with 308.9 km/h. At that time it was the fastest car with a jet engine, breaking four records.

After 60 years, Renault, wanted to celebrate their success, returning to the Bonneville salt flats with the Etoile Filante and with a racing Dauphine, that achieved another record this year.

Its driver was Nicolas Prost, who managed to reach 123,036 km/h, achieving a new record in the category CGC (Classic Gas Coupe), a category involving cars produced between 1928 and 1981, equipped with engines between 754 and 1,015 ml.
