More specifically, they are recalling 543 M5 constructed between 4 September 2014 and 4 December of 2014, 82 M6 Coupe built from 3 September 2014 to 3 December of 2014, 99 M6 Convertible built from 8 September 2014 until 4 December 2014 and finally 232 M6 Gran Coupe built from 3 September 2014 until December 4, 2014.

In these cars, there is an improper welding on the shaft, which can cause breakage. BMW believes that any failure is most likely to occur between 56 and 80 km/h, due to the burden of power when shifting from second to third gear.

According to BMW, they received the first complaint for the problem in August of 2015, when the axle broke in an M5, while there was another incident in September, however, there are no reports of accidents or injuries.
