BMW released official spy photos and a spy video for the new X3. The car is rumored to be presented next August. The photos were taken when the car was tested in North Sweden, and in particular near the town Arjeplog, about 56 kilometers away from the Arctic circle.
The new generation of the X3 will be released towards the end of the year and it will be built onto the new CLAR platform that offers more space for the passengers. The dimensions of the new X3 will remain the same, with its weight to be reduced by 100 kilos.
It will be available with a range of four-cylinder and six-cylinder gasoline and diesel engines, as well as a plug-in hybrid set. Among them will be a 3.0-liter twin-turbo inline 6 engine, in the X3 M40i version, that will produce 347 hp, while the X3 M will be equipped with a modified version of the engine of the M3 and M4, which will produce 500 hp.
The hybrid version will combine a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine producing 245 hp and a 69 kW (95 hp) electric motor, with the total power reaching 330 hp with 700 Nm of torque and the car’s average fuel consumption being 3.8 liters/100 km.
Its production is expected to begin at the Spartanburg plant on August. BMW, however, will assemble the new X3 also at the Rosslyn plant in South Africa, so as to free up capacity for Spartanburg.
