Ford has made a recent announcement that they will invest about $4.5 billion in the expansion of their range of electric and hybrid models. Now the CEO of Ford, Mark Fields, in a recent interview said that the company “plans to launch a rear-wheel drive hybrid pickup until the end of the decade”.

Pickups have ample space for placing batteries and also instant torque from an electric motor will certainly prove useful. Of course a hybrid pickup will not be able to compete with a diesel pickup, in terms of payload or towing capability, but this will be the first step to more sustainable pickups.
