Mechanically the car is available with a 2 liter four-cylinder naturally aspirated engine producing 156 hp and 189 Nm of torque, combined with an electric motor that adds another 52 horses and 205 Nm torque. The new Sonata Hybrid is much more efficient than the model it replaces, consuming half a liter less fuel per 100 km, with an average consumption of 5.5 liters/100 km.

It is combined with a new 6-speed automatic gearbox, which has an electric oil pump and new clutch, while the torque converter has been removed. The capacity of the array of lithium-ion batteries has increased by 13.3%, being now 1.62 kWh, while they are placed under the luggage space, thus freeing 10.5% of this area, which reaches 380 liters.

Other changes are identified on the body of the model, having a more aerodynamic design, featuring a new diffuser on the rear bumper, cover under the whole floor of the body and covers on the 17 inch wheels.
