Gianni Agnelli had asked Sergio Pininfarina to build a road version of the racing Ferrari 365P2. So Ferrari presented in Paris in September of 1966 the Ferrari 365P Berlinetta Speciale.

The prototype that was presented in Paris was not equipped with an engine, but Ferrari took the decision to send two 365P Berlinetta Speciale in production, with the cars to be equipped with 4,4 liter V12 producing 380 hp, having a top speed of 300 km/h.
The first Ferrari 365P Berlinetta Speciale was sold to an American. The car was left in the hands of the Agnelli and unlike the first one, it was painted in red. The car featured three seats (like the McLaren F1, which came afterwards), with the driver seating in the middle.
