Mecedes presented at the 2001 Tokyo auto show the F400 Carving concept. The car was able to change the angle of the camber of its wheels, that could form a negative camber angle greater than 20 degrees.

With this technique, the lateral stability of the concept improved up to 30% more, in comparison to conventional systems. At the same time, the prototype was equipped with a steer by wire steering system with sensors, which regulated the hydropneumatic suspension, depending on the way the driver was moving.
It had special Pirelli tires which had a diameter of 19 inches and a dimension of 255/35 in the outer side, while on the inside, their diameter was 17 inches and the dimension 255/45.
