The Shelby GT350R Mustang is the world’s first mass production car with carbon fiber wheels, with each one of them weighing just 8.1 kilos, significantly less than the 14.9 kilos of an aluminum rim. The carbon rims significantly reduce the unsprung weight of the car and according to Ford, they contribute to improved driving dynamics.

The rims have a ceramic coating that can handle temperatures above 900 degrees Celsius, and a black glossy paint that is maintained on them, even when a corrosive chemical comes in contact with them.
