Chevrolet presented the 6th generation of the Camaro, in a special event in Detroit. The new generation of the Camaro is built on the rear-wheel drive Alpha platform, the same one used on the Cadillac ATS, it weighs 90 kg less than the 5th generation and its design is an evolution of the design of the previous generation.

The car features new LED lights, a small grille, strong lines and curved surfaces. The interior features a three-spoke leather steering wheel, a large touchscreen for the infotainment system, leather seats, aluminum details and the electric parking brake. The instrument panel consists of analog instruments, between which there is an 8 inch digital display, which displays information, such as the navigation system, performance data and various details of the infotainment system.

The car is available with three engines, a 2 liter turbo four-cylinder engine producing 275 hp with 400 Nm of torque and a 3.6 liter V6 engine producing 335 hp with 385 Nm of torque that has direct injection and it can deactivate two of its cylinders.

The Camaro SS is equipped with a 6.2 liter V8 LT1 engine producing 455 hp with 617 Nm of torque, which has direct injection, variable valve timing and cylinder deactivation system.

All engines are available with either a 6-speed manual transmission or an automatic eight speed transmission, which offers up to 5% fuel savings compared with a manual transmission.

Several parts of the body are made of aluminum, with the base of the instrument panel to be made of lightweight metal and to weigh 4.4 kg less than the iron base of the outgoing Camaro.

The dimensions of the car are slightly smaller than the 5th generation. Its length reaches 4.784 mm, the height reaches 1.348 mm, while the wheelbase reaches 2.811 mm. Sales of the new Camaro will begin in the fall, with the production to take place at GM’s plant in Lansing Grand River.
