The President of Russian Railways, Vladimir Yakunin, has a fairly ambitious project, aiming to create the world’s largest highway, that will unite New York to London, creating a super highway that will link Alaska and Russia at the Bering Strait.

The plan was presented at a meeting of the Russian Academy of Sciences, with Yakunin indicating that this is a transnational project. The distance from London to Alaska, via Moscow, will reach 13,000 km and the total distance to New York will reach 21,000 kilometers!
The road will cross the entire territory of Russia and will be linked to the existing roadway systems of Western Europe and Asia. For the moment is not known how they will “link” US and Russia in the Bering Strait, a distance that is 88 km long. The plan also include a high-speed rail network, linking Asia with Europe.
The Trans-Eurasian Belt Development (TEPR) highway, as it was named, could create 10-15 new industries, new towns and thousands of new jobs, with the Russians to characterize the design, ambitious and costly.
