Dr. Ulrich Hackenberg, head of the development department of Audi, in a recent interview confirmed the rumors that said that the new R8 will be offered with a turbo engine.

Hackenberg said:
It’s inevitable that we’re going to use a turbo engine in the R8. This will be placed in the existing generation, so that the range of the engines will be more complete.
The turbo engine will replace the 4.2-liter V8 naturally aspirated engine and it will probably be a 3 liter twin-turbo V6 engine.
