Audi officially presented at Hockenheimring the autonomous RS7. The RS7 piloted driving concept looks like a normal RS7, but underneath lurks plenty of technology that allows the car to be driven by itself.
The prototype has an advanced GPS with centimeter accuracy, which can define the position of the car on the track, and it is equipped with a 3D camera, which sends the images to a computer, which compares them with some graphics that are stored in the car’s memory. Audi claims that the system is searching for hundreds of known characteristics, such as buildings and patterns behind the path of the track, and uses them to determine the best position of the car.
These technologies allow the RS7 to move with absolute precision at Hockenheim, grasping speeds up to 240 km/h, recording a time of 2 minutes and 10 seconds to complete one round of the German track, reaching values of 1.1 G of lateral acceleration.
