BMW in the New York auto show will present the updated version of the X5 eDrive Concept we saw initially at Frankfurt in September 2013.

The updated prototype, has a number of improvements, such as a new silver color with Silverflake BMW i blue decorations. Also it features new roof rails and 21 inch wheels. Inside it has white Ivory leather trim, black shiny decorations, headrests with the eDrive logo printed on them, blue accents, blue backlight and transparent cover in the luggage compartment, allowing the driver to see the batteries. The ConnectedDrive system has been upgraded to maximize the time that the car can be moved only with the electric motor.

It is equipped with a hybrid set consisting of the 2.0 liter TwinPower Turbo engine producing 245 hp, combined with an electric motor of 70 kW (95 hp), producing a total of 272 hp, having an average fuel consumption of 3.8 litres/100 km and can have an electric range of 30 km and a top speed of 120 km/h. The 0-100 km/h is completed in less than 7 seconds and the car emits less than 90 g/km of CO2.

The prototype is equipped with the BMW Driving Experience Control system with three modes : AUTO eDrive, MAX eDrive and SAVE, the first of which balances the performance and effectiveness, the second moves the car solely on the electric motor and the third one keeps the batteries charged so that they can be used later during the trip.

The production version will probably be presented in the Paris exhibition in September, named xDrive40e, and it will be manufactured at the BMW plant in Spartanburg.
