BMW presented the production version of the X5 eDrive concept that was presented for the first time at the Frankfurt auto show in September of 2013 and then again in the New York auto show in April 2014, with the model, named X5 xDrive40e.

BMW X5 xDrive40e

The BMW X5 xDrive40e, is the first non-i hybrid model of the German company that combines a turbocharged gasoline engine with an electric motor. It is available with a four-cylinder, two-liter TwinPower Turbo engine that delivers 245 hp and 350 Nm of torque, while the electric motor produces 113 hp and 250 Nm of torque. The combined power of the system reaches 313 hp and 450 Nm of torque, which passes on the street through a 8-speed automatic transmission and a Steptronic’s xDrive all-wheel drive system.

The car can do the 0-100 km/h in 6.8 seconds and it has a top speed that is electronically limited to 210 km/h. The electric motor is powered by a lithium-ion battery of 9 kWh and while the car uses it solely, it has a top speed of 120 km/h.

The X5 xDrive40e, has an average fuel consumption of 3.3 liters per 100 kilometers and emissions of CO2 at 78 grams per kilometer. The electric autonomy of the model is 31 km. As for the battery, it is worth noting that it charges in three hours and 50 minutes when using a conventional socket and in 2 hours and 45 minutes with the optional, BMW i Wallbox while for space saving, it is fitted beneath the luggage compartment.
