An extremely rare and very special Mercedes-Benz 300 SL will be auctioned by RM Auctions in Monaco in early May.
The original 300 SL is anyway a fantastic, coveted and rare car, but this gullwing is a very special gullwing. Why? Because It is an official restomod from AMG. For those who do not know , restomod is the process of restoration and modernization of a classic car. You get the body of any vintage model and place in it modern mechanical parts of your liking, something like a modern classic car. In others again, not because they believe that lost some of the magic of the original model.The Sultan of Brunei has the first restomod 300 SL by AMG, then, AMG got nine orders for the car between 1996 and 2009.
So this Mercedes-Benz 300 SL 1954 , No. chassis 198040, has retained its beautiful exterior but it hides significantly newer parts. The original straight-six engine gave way to a 6 liter V8 that produces 380 hp and 578 Nm of torque. The original rear suspension was replaced with a 5 link suspension with Bilstein shock absorbers, the rims were also replaced with AMG alloy rims, the transmission is a 4 speed automatic and the braking system consists of disc brakes on all four wheels.
The interior has been modernized with red Nappa leather combined with Alcantara, while AMG has placed carbon cushioning and a CD-changer. The wheel has also changed, finally the dashboard is original but with some electronic readings.
