It is equipped with a 2.0-liter TDI engine producing 184 hp with 380 Nm of torque, available with either a 6-speed manual transmission, or the new 7-speed DSG. The hatchback version is able to do the 0-100 km/h in 7.5 seconds and the Variant in 7.9 seconds.

Its interior has a digital instrument cluster of 12.3 inches, that is offered on the optional equipment, along with a head-up display. The centre console comes almost intact from the Golf R Touch concept, with the touchscreen of the infotainment system being 9.2-inches. The new Discover Pro monitor supports voice commands and gestures.

From a security perspective, the revamped Golf GTD is fitted with the Traffic Jam Assist system with semi-autonomous driving modes, such as autonomous braking in case of a crash and rear collision avoidance. The car can even understand when the driver does not have the necessary attention on the road, alerting him to stop and rest.
