The rear wheel roadster of Alfa Rome will be based on the new generation of the MX-5 in 2015 and will be built alongside the Japanese roadster factory of the brand, in Hiroshima.
Despite the common origin and place of production, the two roadster will follow entirely different paths in terms of design, each following closely the aesthetic code of the brand.
At the announcement of the Mazda-Fiat they said “two completely different in design roadsters, with distinctive features in the aesthetic identity of each brand.”
The two automakers did not disclose more data regarding the mechanical parts of neither model.
However, according to the information until now, the new generation MX-5 will be about 100 pounds lighter and equipped with a turbocharged four-cylinder 1.3 liter engine with performance in the range of 200 hp. At the same time, Mazda has promised that it will provide plenty of scope for personalization for the new MX-5.
The goal of Alfa Romeo is the new model to remind people of the Duetto Spider, which first appeared in 1966 and has been written indelibly in the minds of Alfa Romeo enthusiasts.
