McLaren officially presented the P1 GTR, the production version of the P1 GTR Design Concept, for exclusively use in the track.

McLaren P1 GTR

The car will be presented at the Geneva Motor show and it will be painted in the colors of the McLaren F1 GTR with a chassis number 06R. The hybrid set of the car yields 1,000 hp, of which 800 hp are produces by the 3.8 liter twin-turbo engine and 200 hp by the electric motor) with the construction and maintenance of the car to be done by McLaren Special Operations.

It features a new body kit that produces large amounts of vertical wind pressure, consisting of a front splitter, new air intake, new side skirts, roof air intake, active aerodynamic devices, huge rear spoiler and a new rear bumper with diffuser.

The rear also features very large double exhaust tailpipes made of inconel and titanium alloy, the car stands on monoblock 19 inch rims with Pirelli slick tires. The aerodynamic improvements produce 660 kilos of vertical downforce at 241 km/h, 10% more than the “simple” P1 produces.

The P1 GTR weighs 50 kg less than P1, with the front part to be larger by 80mm, with McLaren to change the configuration of the pipes of the cooling system, which flow into the front wheel arches, while maintaining the aerodynamic fins on the floor in front of the front wheels. Regarding the suspension, it has been reset, having a shorter distance from the ground (50 mm) relative to the “simple” P1.

The mirrors have been repositioned on the front columns, both to be closer to the eyes of the driver, and to reduce aerodynamic drag. Changes have been made in the rear extreme of the door, with aerodynamic channels having expanded to send more air downwardly through the motor to assist cooling.

Each car will cost £1.98 million with McLaren not yet deciding how many units will be produces. The only certainty is that it will be a limited production car. The owners of McLaren P1 GTR will have access to racing simulators of McLaren, will take part in at least six international events, with McLaren to take car of the transfer of the cars to each track. Initially, the owners will have access to a special test session at Silverstone and at the Circuit de Catalunya racetrack in Spain.
