Porsche at the 1989 Frankfurt auto show, presented the Panamericana, which seemed like an elevated 911 Targa. The name of the car was inspired by the Carrera Panamericana, which participated in the famous Panamericana race in the early 50s.

The car was equipped with a 3.6 liter six-cylinder boxer engine producing 250 hp and it had a completely transparent glass roof, which was removable along with the rear window.
The body of the car was made of glass and light metal and only 2 copies were manufactured. One of the two is at the Porsche Museum in Stuttgart.
