BMW had presented in 1996 its own proposal for a lightweight two-seater car, that was aimed only at driving pleasure. It was 1995 when BMW announced that the winner of an internal design competition was Robert Powell and 12 months later and in cooperation with 100 engineers of BMW, the Z21 Just 4/2 Concept was built and presented.

The prototype weighed just 660 kilos, it had no window, but only a small wind deflector. The door panels were removable, while there was a very small luggage space in the rear, above the engine compartment. Its interior had two lightweight carbon bucket seats, a leather steering wheel and a dashboard with only the essentials.

The car was equipped with the engine of the BMW K1100 motorcycle, which was a four-cylinder 1.1-liter, producing 100 hp, that enabled the car to do the 0-100 km/h in six seconds and to have a top speed of 180 km/h.
