Mercedes-Benz will produce a new generation of the G-Class in 2017, with the main feature of the off-road vehicle to be reduced weight, a new interior, new engines and a modified front suspension (three or four links ) which will provide more space for the front passengers.

The car will be manufactured from high strength steel and aluminum and it will weigh at least 200 kilos less. It will be 10 cm larger than before, in order to offer better stability and the electronics of the car will derive from the S-Class. It will also be equipped with a new 9 speed automatic transmission, in an effort to reduce CO2 emissions and average consumption.

Design will borrow elements from the Ener-G-Force Concept and mechanically it will be equipped with a new 3.0 liter six-cylinder petrol engine producing 360 hp, codenamed M256 and a corresponding diesel engine with 300 hp, codenamed OM656, which will also be placed in new E-Class, which will be released in 2016. Later AMG versions will be released, which represent more than 50 % of total sales of the G-Class.
