Production of the Lamborghini Urus has been finally confirmed by the head of Audi, Rupert Stadler, during the celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Italian company, who said that it will be released sometime in 2017.
The Urus is supposed to be the replacement of the LM002. It is equipped with a a 600 hp engine combined with dual-clutch gearbox and all wheel drive. Based on an enhanced version of the MLB platform, in which the new Q7, Touareg and Cayenne will be based. Although the architecture would be similar to the current MLB platform it would make extensive use of lightweight materials.
The platform combines cast aluminum with steel, with both materials being glued and nailed together, as did the Jaguar XJ. In addition, the upgraded platform is believed to include a new type of carbon fiber.
