The one-off 1967 BMW-Glas 3000 V8 Fastback by Frua will go to auction by RM Sotheby’s on May 23 at Villa Erba, in Lake Como in Northern Italy.
Glas was a small and independent German automaker, which became known mainly from the Goggomobil. However, due to some financial problems Glas was acquired by BMW in September of 1966, with BMW to built only 418 BMW-Glas 3000 V8 coupe from September 1967 until May 1968.
Frua though was also designing several experimental prototypes with this BMW-Glas 3000 V8 Fastback to be one of them. Apart from the fact that this car is a one-off, it was the only 3000 V8 model that had the familiar grille of BMW, the car made its debut in 1967 at the Frankfurt Motor Show. It was very close to being passed into the production, as a model of BMW, but eventually it didn’t.
