The reason for the recall, is a possible leakage of the transmission, which could cause a fire, because of a problem during production, resulting in a CVT hose that may not be installed correctly. More specifically, the clamps may not be “closed” correctly.
If the hose is detached the CVT gearbox may stop functioning properly, yet allowing the liquid to be poured on the hot surface, which could cause a fire.
Mitsubishi became aware of this problem, in December of 2015, when an Outlander stopped moving when it had only done 110 kilometers.
