This is the first car of Detroit Electric and it is called SP: 01. The two-seater electric sports car, is based on the Lotus Exige chassis and will it will start production in August. Just 999 cars will be built at a price of $ 135.000, with a warranty of 30,000 miles/3 years, which is available for extension up to 5 years or 50,000 miles.
The SP: 01 is equipped with an electric motor mounted in the center, producing 150 kW (204 hp) and 225 Nm of torque. The body is made of carbon and stylistically it borrows several elements from the Lotus Exige.
Detroit Electric describes it as the fastest production electric car in the world, with an acceleration of 0-100 km/h being comlpeted in 3.7 seconds and a top speed of 249 km/h. It weighs 1,067 kg with the motor being available with either a 2-speed automatic transmission or a 4-speed manual. The batteries that power the electric motor, have a capacity of 37 kWh and they can charge fully in 4.3 hours using a simple household outlet with an autonomy of 306 km.
The brakes consist of AP disks at the front and Brembo at the rear. It features 16 inch wheels at the front and 17 inch at the rear, with a tire size of 175/55 and 225/45 respectively. It has ABS, energy recovery system while braking and an interactive system of charging and discharging, which gives the ability to use the car as an energy source.
