The next Ford Focus RS, will go on sale in 2015. It will be equipped with a turbo four cylinder 2.3 liter engine which will produce
335 hp, in Europe it will cost close to 40,000 euros.
The engine sends power to the front wheels, but rumors say that ford is also developing an all wheel drive. The same engine will be installed in the new Mustang, but both cars will yield different numbers of horsepower.
The engine in the Focus RS will be mounted transversely and it will have more horsepower and torque than the one that will be placed on the European Mustang, as Ford wants to keep the hatchback the strongest model of the continent, where more sales are expected. Although initial rumors were stating that an electric motor will be mounted on the rear axle to reduce emissions and greater horsepower, ultimately were rejected since the development of such a solution would be very costly.
The new Ford Focus RS will have the Sound Symposer sound system, that enhances the incoming audio in the cabin by opening a special valve between the engine and the cabin. Also, the car will continue to have its Revoknuckle suspension on the front axle, which was not placed in the current Focus ST because the engineers felt that electronic torque vectoring system is enough for the 250 hp of the hp and 360 Nm of the car. Finally, it has a naturally limited slip differential and larger brakes and tires.
President of the marketing department of Ford, Roelant de Waard, said that Ford can not sell two RS models at the same time so an RS version of the Ford Fiesta will not be available.Pictures of the car have not been released yet.
