In a prominent position on the stand , Volkswagen presented in Frankfurt the new Golf R.
The 2014 VW Golf R, will have new settings on the suspension . The new suspension will be 20mm lower compared with the simple version of Golf and 5mm lower compared with the GTI. The steering is practically identical to that of the Golf GTI with the only difference that the system now has drastically reduced the lock-to-lock turns of 2.75 from only 2.1 ! To stop the Golf R, VW has equipped it with ventilated discs on all four wheels. It has an average fuel consumption of 7.1 l/100 km and 165 gr/km emissions of CO2 (6,9 litres/100 km and 159 g/km with DSG).
It is equipped with a 2.0 TSI four cylinder engine derived from the Audi S3, producing 300 hp from 5,500 rpm to 6,200 rpm and 380Nm of torque. Compared with that of the Golf GTI, it has new cylinder heads , new exhaust valves , new valve springs and pistons while the turbo is redesigned .
All this power will pass on the road through the 4Motion all-wheel drive system that always equips the strongest Golf while in the gearbox , the Golf R will be equipped with a manual six speed transmission with strengthened clutch as standard and the automatic six speed DSG as an option .
The new Golf R features a new front and rear bumpers , side skirts, rear diffuser , dark rear lights , quad exhaust tailpipe , aluminum side mirrors and new onset bi-xenon headlights . The rims are 18 inch as standard while 19 inch ones are offered as extra. Inside there are seats covered with leather/alcantara and cloth and a new speedometer with final reading 320 km/h.
It will be available in three-door and five-door versions with the price in Germany starting at € 38,325.
