BMW has gone once again brought mules of the X4 at Nürburgring to collect data before the car is officially unveiled at the Detroit show in January 2014.
The production version of the X4 Concept will be built in early 2014 at the BMW plant in Spartanburg in South Carolina, the same plant that manufactures the X3, X5 and X6. It will be placed against the Porsche Cajun and the Range Rover Evoque with BMW believing that the X4 will help to broaden the customer audience , since it considers that it will attract new audiences , as it happened when they first presented the X6. However there will be no M version of the X4 , as BMW thinks it will “steal” sales from the X6 M.
It will be built on the chassis of the X3 and it will cost less than the X5. It will be available with a range of four-cylinder and six -cylinder petrol and diesel engines , similar to those of the X3, the power will be transferred to all wheels through 3 gearboxes ( 6 speed manual , 7 speed dual clutch automatic and the new 8-speed Steptronic). Among the engines there will be the 2.0 – liter turbo -producing 240 hp and 352 Nm of torque , the 3.0 – liter turbo -producing 300 hp and 406 Nm of torque and the 2.0 – liter turbodiesel producing 184 hp and 380 Nm torque.
