The Ariel Atom 3.5R is closer than ever

The Ariel is preparing to launch a new special edition for the Ariel Atom, which will be named 3.5R. This special edition will include a multitude of upgrades including an automatic transmission with paddles on the steering wheel, some improvements to the suspension and a new chargecooler leading to increased in horsepower by about 10-15%. The car apart from the mechanical interventions, will have new, specific for this version color combinations, it will cost about £80,000 and it will be sold alongside the existing, manual Atom 3.5.

The Ariel Atom 3.5R is closer than ever

For the 3.5R, we use a 6-speed Sadev gearbox, not exactly what we used for the Atom V8 but something similar, with the same Geartronic mechanism. We just finished testing at a track and all indications are that it is very quick. In a recent test at Donington, we overtook everything in straight lines and curves, including touring cars with slicks.

Said Simon Saunders. The Atom 3.5R will still be driven by the engine of the Honda Civic Type R, but the supercharger will have a little more pressure. Consequently, the horsepower of the 3.5R will be about 350 horses. The biggest change in the new Atom, however, is in the suspension, where Ariel, uses a set of Ohlins TTX shock absorber with internal reservoir.

Ariel is putting the finishing touches to this special version and orders have already begun. The first deliveries are expected to start in mid-summer.
