Audi Q8 takes the green light for production

Audi has confirmed, once again, that there is a place in their plans for the design of a Q8. The new model in the Q range will be the ultimate luxury SUV, but it will not be available before the next three years.

The chief engineer of the brand, Ulrich Hackenberg, argues that the future Q8 will be “more exciting and sportier” than the Q7 and its main rivals would be the BMW X6 and the next Mercedes Coupé GLE. The luxury SUV will be long over 5 meters long and it is expected to adopt a five door body, developed by Chief Designer Marc Lichte.

The new SUV from Ingolstadt will rely largely on the next generation of the Audi Q7, consequently it will be based on the MLB platform, while the available engines will be both V6 and V8 petrol and diesel. Audi could also consider the possibility of a variant plug-in hybrid and electric models to enhance the appeal of the model and to better compete with the Tesla Model X, that will be available in the future.

Finally, rumors say that the Audi Q8 will have a starting price of just over € 60,000, a sum that could go up to more than €110,000 for a hypothetical RS Q8 variant which would be probably powered by a 4.0 liter V8 twin turbo engine with a power output still to be defined.
