Rumours circulating all this time about a BMW X7 were confirmed officially,as BMW has decided to add an even bigger SUV in its range.
To add the X7 to the top of the X series, the Bavarian company will invest the amount of € 730 million in the plant in the city of Spartanburg South Carolina in America, so that it can produce up to a total of 450,000 cars by the end of 2016.
The X7 will be produced exclusively in the aforementioned plant, BMW did not announce more details, but so far we know that the über-SUV will be based on the platform of the next generation of the 7 Series and it will be significantly larger and wider than the X5.
It will have three rows of seats with ample space for all passengers and it will make extensive use of aluminum and carbon, to maintain a weight near to that of the current X5.It is expected to be equipped with the company’s existing range of engines, ie a turbocharged 6 cylinder, a V8 and a diesel.
With the X7 getting the green light, the rumored SUV of Rolls-Royce may be based the platform of the X7.
