BMW presented the new X1. The second generation of the X1 borrows design elements from the X3 and X5, with BMW stressing that the car is a Sports Activity Vehicle (SAV). The second generation of the X1 has a sportier design and it is built on the UKL platform. It features a new front bumper design, a large grille, LED fog lights, a slightly sloping roofline and a spoiler.

The new X1 is shorter than the previous generation, but it has grown in width and height, thereby providing more room for the passengers. The ground clearance amounts to 183 mm, while the luggage compartment has a capacity of 505 liters, which by folding the rear seats (40:20:40), goes up to 1,550 liters.
The car will be offered with an all-wheel drive system (xDrive) and it will be available with two 2 liter four-cylinder engines, a petrol and a diesel. The 2 liter diesel engine delivers 150 hp with 330 Nm of torque, and 190 hp with 400 Nm of torque on another version, the stronger version of the car will produce 231 hp with 450 Nm of torque and it will be called xDrive25d.
The 2 liter gasoline will produce 192 hp with 280 Nm of torque on two versions and 231 hp with 350 Nm of torque on the xDrive25i. BMW says the new X1 is up to 17% more economical than the outgoing generation, because of the improved engines, reduced weight, while the four-wheel drive system weighs about 35 kilos less.

The interior of the car features a three-spoke steering wheel, metal, aluminum, and glossy decorations, leather upholstery, an electric handbrake, a 6.5 inch screen for the infotainment system, USB connection and adjustable rear seats. Several elements of the new X1, are the same as elements of the 2-Series Active Tourer and Grand Tourer, such as the instrument panel, steering wheel and gear selector. There are three trim levels: Sport Line, xLine and M Sport.
The car can be equipped with a Heads-Up Display, with BMW to offer full LED lights and also the Dynamic Damper Control, Driving Assistant Plus, Active Cruise Control, Stop & Go, Lane Departure Warning, Traffic Jam Assistant, and many other security systems.
The official presentation of the car will take place at the Frankfurt auto show, with sales to start at the end of October. The production of the car will take place at the BMW plant in Regensburg.
