Freightliner presented the Inspiration Truck at a special event in Texas, USA. This is the first truck in the world with autonomous technology that can move legally on the road, with the state of Nevada having granted permission to the truck.
The inspiration has the Highway Pilot system, that consists of a radar, a camera and several other safety systems that allow the truck to move autonomously on the highway. The company has done more than 16,000 km of tests with the truck. It can move safely on the highway by itself, adjusting its velocity and it can achieve a reduction in fuel consumption of up to 5% (compared to when driven by a human).
