The system works in conjunction with active cruise control and stop & go and allows the vehicle to move semi-autonomously, while the Crossroads Warning system alerts the driver and takes over the braking of the car when it detects a potential accident at an intersection.

The new 5-Series will borrow several other technological innovations from the new 7 Series, such as the digital instrument cluster, the iDrive infotainment system with a touch screen and gesture support, which supports Apple Carplay and Android Auto and the automatic parking system.

It will also be equipped with a Head-Up display with augmented reality capabilities, that will display data on the windshield, such as the distance from the vehicle ahead, signs with low visibility, people or other objects on the road.
