After teaser pictures, Skoda has decided to reveal the new Fabia in its entirety before its official debut at the Paris exhibition in October.
Although it is not mentioned in the press release, the new Skoda Fabia is believed to be based on the PQ26 platform of the Volkswagen Group, a platform which was first used in the new VW Polo. The new supermini car of the czech company, that has a length that does not exceeding 4 meters, is 30 mm lower and 90 mm wider than the model it replaces. These changes give it a more aggressive look without sacrificing features. According to the head of design of Skoda, Jozef Kaban, the available space for passengers in the cabin is bigger than ever and the boot is the biggest in its class, but exact number were not given.
Beyond that, the third generation of the small hatchback, will be available with two petrol and two diesel engines. On the basis of the range will be a 1 liter 3 cylinder MPI engine with 60 hp and there will also be a 1.2 liter 4 cylinder TSI, producing up to 110 hp. On the diesel side, there is a new three-cylinder 1,4 liter common-rail engine with an aluminum block producing 75 and 105 hp, later towards the end of 2015 a GreenLine version will be added with a 75 hp engine, which will have a start/stop system, kinetic energy recovery system, low friction tires and some aerodynamic modifications that will allow the new Fabia to consume just 3.1 liters/100 km, with emissions of 82 gr/km of. The weight of the new Fabia will be 65 kilos less than its predecessor. Consequently, the basic model with the 1 liter MPI engine will weigh only 980 kilos.
The new Fabia will be available in 15 different colors and 3 trim levels, the customer can choose a different color for the roof, wheels and mirrors. Sales of the new model of Skoda, are expected to begin in early 2015.
