In the 1980s BMW wanted to create a powerful version of the 7 series (E32) that was going to be placed over the 750i and 750iL that were equipped with a 5.0-liter V12 engine.

They took the 5.0-liter V12 and added 4 more cylinders, to produce a V16 engine that was at 30 cm longer than the V12 and had its cooling system at the back. The engine was able to produce 408 hp with 625 Nm torque, that enabled the car to reach 100 km/hour from a standstill in about 6 seconds. Unfortunately the Goldfish V16 never passed to production.
