Volvo in collaboration with Carrozzeria Coggiola had presented at the 1971 Paris auto show, the Volvo 1800 ESC Viking concept. The car was basically the fastback version of the Volvo 1800 ESC Coupe.
The 1800 ESC Viking had a length of 4,465 mm, a width of 1,705 mm, a height of 1,265 mm and a wheelbase of 2,450 mm. Its interior was spacious, it could accommodate four people, it had a leather upholstery and an air conditioning system.
The car had pop-up lights with a special patented opening system, with the front structure being specially designed to provide an increased security for the front passengers. The concept never got the green light to pass in production.
