Renault took back the title of the fastest lap of Nürburgring for a front wheel drive car, with the Renault Mégane RS which made 7:54.36, about 4 seconds faster than the 7:58.04 achieved by the Seat Leon Cupra.
The time of the Renault Megane R.S. 275 Trophy-R is about 13.5 seconds faster than the 8:07.97 which was made by the Renault Megane RS Trophy in 2011, with the engineers of Renault Sport Technologies making hundreds of hours of testing in France, Spain and Germany.
The Renault Megane R.S. 275 Trophy-R will come in extremely limited production of 250 units and will be sold in 15 countries. It will be based on the recently presented Renault Megane RS 275 Trophy but thanks to techniques to reduce weight, it weighs 100 kilos.
It is equipped with a 2.0-liter turbo engine producing 275 hp with 360 Nm of torque, with the Cup Chassis, differential lock, Akrapovic exhaust system, Ohlins adjustable suspension and the Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires, specially adapted for the car. It has no rear seats and at the front it has two monocoque Recaro Pôle Position seats from polycarbonate, which offer weight savings of 42 kilos. There are red six-point safety belts, to protect passengers. Also it has a new smaller lithium-ion battery which reduces the weight by 16 kilos. The R.S. 275 Trophy-R is also equipped with aluminum discs measuring 350 × 28 mm of Brembo (-3 kg) to brake safely.
The Megane R.S. 275 Trophy-R is painted in white and black color, with red accents. The 19 inch wheels are also painted in the same red color with Renault to place alongside the steering wheel a hand brake clad in Alcantara and a leather gear knob.
