The new patrol car of the German police is a Volkswagen Passat GTE. The hybrid Passat will be used by the officers of the islands of Heligoland, which belongs to the Land of Schleswig-Holstein, Germany, where the use of cars and motorcycles is prohibited . The only cars with combustion engines that circulate there are ambulances and firetrucks, with all the rest having electric motors.

The Passat GTE is equipped with a 1.4 liter TSI  engine producing 156 hp and an electric motor producing 85 kW (115 hp) with 400 Nm of torque. Together, the entire hybrid set produces 218 hp with the power to be sent on the road via a six-speed DSG gearbox. The 0-100 km/h is achieved in less than 8 seconds, with the top speed reaching 220 km/h. It has an average consumption of 2.0 liters/100 km and it emits 45 g/km CO2.
