Volkswagen presented the Passat GTE, the plug-in hybrid version of the new Passat, which will debut at the Paris auto show next week. The car will go on sale in the second half of 2015 and it will be available in a sedan and estate version and visually it differs from the rest of the Passat line, with the blue decorations, new front bumper with the characteristic “C” LED daytime running lights, large wheels , blue backlight on the inside, the new shifter, blue stitching and a three-spoke leather steering wheel.
It is equipped with a 1.4 liter TSI engine producing 156 hp and an electric motor producing 85 kW (115 hp) and 400 Nm of torque. Together, the entire hybrid system produces 218 hp with the power to pass the road via a six-speed DSG gearbox. The 0-100 km/h comes in less than 8 seconds, with top speed of 220 km/h. It has an average consumption of 2.0 liters/100 km and emits 45 g/km of CO2. With 50 liters tank and in combination with a fully charged lithium-ion battery of 9,9 kWh (1,2 kWh higher than those of the Golf GTE), the Passat GTE has a total range of 1,000 km.
The fully charged battery charges in about 4.5 hours using simple plug and with a quick charger, the time is reduced to 2.5 hours.
