The Japanese firm revealed in Detroit the new and bolder than ever design of the Lexus IS.
The new IS will be available from mid 2013 and will include in it’s range of publications,a number of options. Starting from the top, versions IS 350 and IS 250, the first will feature a V6 petrol engine with 3.5 liters and the second a V6 with a capacity of 2.5 liters,it will be available in four-wheel drive and rear wheel drive versions. In the case of rear wheel drive IS 350 the engine is combined with the eight relations automatic gearbox version of the IS-F,which in a manual configuration promises rapid transitions.
The hybrid version, IS 300h combines a 2.5-liter four-cylinder gasoline engine with an electric motor. The conventional engine delivers 178 horsepower and 221 Nm torque while the electric motor’s power is 143 horsepower and 300 Nm of torque. As a result, the combined power of the two engines reaches 220 horsepower.
The new Lexus IS,features four driving options “Eco”, Normal, Sport and Sport + (only available on IS 350).The capacity of the trunk is increased reaching 480 liters, and 30 liters less for hybrid versions of the model. Moreover, thanks to the increased by about 7.5 cm, length of the wheelbase combined with the thinner front seats, space for rear seat passengers shows a corresponding increase.
In terms of the dynamic F-Sport version,it stands out from the other versions by the slightly different design of the grill and bumpers,it comes with standard 18-inch wheels and an upgraded steering and suspension. Available as an option is the adjustable suspension and the Adaptive Variable Suspension. At the interior you can find the sport steering wheel, aluminum pedals and the “F” logo in the lower part of the doors.
The IS has ten airbags, vehicle detection system at blind corners, alarm system in case of unintended lane change and alarm system in case of detection of a vehicle exiting a parking-reverse and automatic lights.
